Sea Serpents

Sea serpents have been a part of mythology ever since man ventured into the open oceans. Sea serpents are considered to be mythological monsters either wholly or partly serpentine in form. Sighting of these creatures have been reported for hundreds of years in oceans and open waters across the world with many sighting still occurring today. Crypto zoologist have identified a purported 1,200 sea serpent sightings from the varying bodies of water around the globe. A lot of sightings have been linked to historical accounts such as Indian legends and stories. A majority of sightings especially more recent ones have seemed to be concentrated around the Pacific North West.
Reports and sightings of these mysterious creatures have at times drawn some interest from modern science but for the most part is considered myth usually only being researched and followed by the Crypto Zoologists. But through out the years the discovery of some animals unknown to science and some which were thought to have been extinct for years especially in the worlds oceans brings the hope that a sea serpent type creature could still be found. These creatures have also been described in artifacts from years past like the Skagit River “atlatl” now housed at the museum of Anthropology. The yew-wood spear-thrower is crowned by a carving of a rampant sea creature with white inlaid eyes , it was dredged near the mouth of the Skagit River and was carbon dated showing it was carved circa AD-200. These creatures are also seen in many native petro glyphs seen along the coast of the Pacific North West , and a creature in one of the petro glyphs there shows a great resemblance to the creature on the crown of the Skagit River “atlatl”. Many sighting by locals and natives have been found to also show resemblance to many creatures shown in these petro glyphs , making some wonder if this is simply coincidence or is there a link proving the existence of these creatures.
Crypto Zoologist have further argued the existence of these sea creatures pointing out that many people see similar things and report very similar descriptions making it possible to classify these animals into different classifications. These classification attempts have shown some very different results at time but at the same time share several common characteristics. Some of these creatures have been put info class’s such as (Super Otter , Many-Humped, Long Necked , Super Eels, Father-of-all-Turtles, Giant Invertebrates, Classic Sea Monsters, Mystery Cetaceans, Mystery Manta, Great Sea Centipede, Mystery Saurian, Cryptic Chelonian, Giant Shark, Mystery Sirenian, Many Finned, Yellow Belly).
Many skeptics simply debunk the sightings of these mysterious sea serpents as misidentifications for simple things such as large eels , seaweed , sea snakes , basking sharks , driftwood and onward. Some also believe that some of these sightings may actually be Giant Squid that scientist believe to possibly exist in some depths of the oceans. Despite numerous sightings and reports there has yet to be any credible physical evidence recorded to prove the existence of these creatures.
With the worlds oceans still being vastly undiscovered and researched is it possible these creature are simply waiting for man to make a great discovery ? Could science once again encounter something yet unexplained and thought to simply be myth ?
