Chupacabra

The word Chupacabra brings fear to many people, yet others may have not heard of the word. Chupacabra is a well known creature that is said to live in parts of the Americas (both North and South). More specifically, the creature is said to be found in Mexico, the United States, and Puerto Rico. The original sightings were in Puerto Rico. The name Chupacabra does have a meaning behind it. In Spanish “chupar” means “to suck”, while cabra means “goat”. Put these together and in English it means “goat sucker”. The name was given to it after many people have claimed that it attacks livestock and then consumes their blood (mainly goats).

Although there have been many sightings, there is a wide variety of descriptions that have been given by people. The first sighting of the animal was sometime in the 1990s in Puerto Rico. There have been sightings since in areas such as Chile, and even Maine. People who have given descriptions claim that the animal is quite big, similar to a small bear. They also say that it has spines sticking out from its neck and following down to its tail. Though many do not believe in it, there are many that still believe the Chupacabra is out there, and evidently fear it.

The first attack was reported in 1995 (March) in Puerto Rico, when 8 sheep were found dead. Each sheep had wounds to their chest and they also had no blood left in them. Then, in 1975 in Moca (a tiny town), there were killings similar to those in Puerto Rico. More and more reports came of similar killings, and all claimed that the sheep had all their blood drained once being killed.

Chupacabra is somewhat a legend, and is used by comedians (specifically by Silverio Perez, a Puerto Rican comedian). It is seen by many as a spiritual thing, and they really believe Chupacabra is out there. Though he seems to have no intent to harm humans, many still fear him.

On the other side of the spectrum are the people who believe it is a huge myth. They claim that descriptions given by people who have sighted it are different, thus they may be lying. Over the years, the sightings in the USA have steadily increased, yet no one in the United States makes a big deal of the creature. Though, as mentioned before, in South America, it is a big deal, and something that is even discussed regularly. Officials claim that until they have photo proof of this creature, it is not exactly in existence.
